COOL ALGEBRA WEBSITES
CHAPTER 1: NUMBERS
1-1: What Are Numbers? (IXL) - This applet asks students to classify numbers into certain categories. Students will learn the difference between whole number, natural numbers, rational and irrational numbers. 1-2: Number Lines (Khan Academy) - The video from Khan Academy introduces positive and negative numbers on a number line. Students can see the relationship between two numbers by plotting them on a number line. 1-3: Ordering Numbers (Math Is Fun) - This is a game where students need to order the numbers in either ascending or descending order. It also allows the students to practice with fractions and decimals. 1-4: Square Roots (Math Warehouse) - A great website that allows students to input their own square roots and see how they can be simplified. CHAPTER 2: NUMBERS & OPERATIONS
2-1: Adding & Subtracting Integers (Math Is Fun) - Introduces to students to number and number lines. Students will see examples and rules to help them understand the concept. 2-2: Order of Operations (Math Goodies) - Great notes for students to learn PEMDAS. Students are allowed to copy the examples and solve their own problems at the bottom of the page. 2-3: Rational & Irrational Numbers (Khan Academy) - Introduction to the next set of numbers. Students will watch a video on rational and irrational numbers and what they mean. 2-4: Numbers & Operations Recap (IXL) - Allows students to evaluate variable expressions involving rational numbers. Students will get instant feedback with correct or incorrect answers. CHAPTER 3: GEOMETRY
3-1: Perimeter (Khan Academy) - A great introduction video for students to learn about perimeter. 3-2: Area (Math Is Fun) - This website gives the correct formulas to find the area of a triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, square, circle and parallelogram. It also gives an example of each. 3-3: Volume (Khan Academy) - This is a great introduction to volume. This applet shows students figures in 3D and allows them to input answers. If students would like more feedback, they can click on "I'd Like A Hint". 3-4: Surface Area (Calculator Soup) - This applet allows the students to choose the shape that they want to figure out the surface area for. Students will then see the shape drawn out and the correct formula to use. Students can input numbers and units to find the surface area. |
CHAPTER 4: EQUATIONS
4-1: Solving Equations Introduction (IXL) - This website give students a variety of problems to explore how to simplify equations and how to solve them. 4-2: One-Step Equations (Purple Math) - Students can learn how to solve simple one-step equations. It has videos and notes that students can watch to better understand the topic. At the bottom of the page, students can use the MathWay Widget to create their own equations. 4-3: Two-Step Equations (Algebra Lab) - Shows students how to set up a two-step equations. Notes are given for students to copy. At the bottom of the page is a series of problems the students can try on their own. 4-4: Word Equations (Regents Prep) - Allows students to practice equations in the form of word problems. Students can get detailed answers to check if they are correct by clicking on "Answer". 4-5: Mixed Equation Reviewed (IXL)- This website is a review of all the different equations. Students will get an overview of how they answered the questions. CHAPTER 5: LINEAR FUNCTIONS
5-1: Finding the Slope (Virtual Nerd) - Is a video showing the students how to find slope by using rise over run. 5-2: Finding the Slope With Points (Khan Academy) - Includes a video on how to find the slope when you are given two coordinate points. This introduces the students to the slope formula. 5-3: Slope Intercept Form (Math Planet) - This website has notes and a video on how to put an equation into slope intercept form. Students will learn that m=slope b= y-intercept. 5-4: Standard Form (Math Warehouse) - The website has notes, videos and practice problems on standard form. Students can click on "Show Answer" to see if they are correct. 5-5: Point Slope Form (IXL) - This applet allows students to input answers to word problems dealing with point slope form. 5-6: Parallel & Perpendicular Lines (Purple Math) - This website gives the students good notes on parallel and perpendicular lines. Students can also watch videos and try free practice problems. CHAPTER 6: STATS
5-1: Introduction to Stats (Khan Academy) - This link, takes you to a video introduction on statistics in algebra I. Students can watch the video and explore the other links. 5-2: Mean & Median (Purple Math) - This website gives an in-depth description of mean, median, mode and range. It also allows students to explore those topics with the MathWay Widget. 5-3: Mode & Range (IXL) - This tool gives the students the opportunity to answer question with mean, median, mode and range by putting the answers in the box. |
